Leadership

Structure

Genesis is led by both staff and non-staff elders. The elders are responsible for overall care or the flock and direction of the church. The elders are supported in this work by both staff and deacons. Staff offer leadership to the day-to-day areas of ministry at Genesis. Deacons serve the church in ensuring ministries are supported effectively.

Hans Googer

Hans Googer

Pastor of Preaching

Hans Googer

Hans has served as the Pastor of Preaching for Genesis since 2018—providing leadership to the preaching and disciple-making ministries of the church. Before that, he spent nine years in Baton Rouge as a teaching pastor at a church with a heavy focus on college ministry. He got a ThM (OT/Pastoral Ministries) from Dallas Seminary and a PhD (Leadership) from Southern Seminary. Along with pastoring, he moonlights as an adjunct professor at DTS-Houston (Pastoral Ministries) and also sometimes a youth baseball coach. He is passionate about reaching the next generation, making healthy disciples who can reproduce their lives in others, and organizational health. He's been married to Courtney for over eighteen years and they have three boys.

What is something you love about Genesis?

I love our kids ministry team. They're the best part of our church and I'd put them up against any of the Megas with regard to the seriousness with which they approach their task, and the people who serve kids are the kind of folks you'd send out to plant a church.

He has been a part of Genesis since it was planted in 2011 and has a passion for worship and family ministry. Matt and his wife, Carla, have four children. He is excited to be part of what the Lord is doing at Genesis.

What is something you love about Genesis?

Our people are so loving and welcoming to each other and new people.

Jon Weichbrodt

Jon was born and raised in Ardmore, Ok and received a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and an MBA from the University of Texas at the Permian Basin. He came to know the Lord during college through the ministry of Campus Crusade (now CRU) and has had the joy of serving in churches wherever the Lord took him and his family. He met his wife, Dusty, at college and they were married after she graduated. His work career with Phillips and ConocoPhillips took him all over the world (Singapore, Indonesia, Norway) and the U.S. (Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, and Arizona). After he retired from the oil industry in 2008, he worked teaching, coaching and in administration at Providence Classical School in Spring. Along with serving at Genesis, he is currently on the board of Harbor Christian Academy—brinigng a Classical Christian education to the Houston area. The Lord has blessed him and Dusty with six kids and eight grandkids (who affectionately refer to him as “Honeybaby”).

What is something you love about Genesis?

I love that Genesis has such a high proportion of its members actively involved in Community Groups and Discipleship Groups where they enjoy deep fellowship, prayer, and can dig into God’s Word together.
